If you’re a fan of the comic book series Dylan Dog, or a fan of the Brandon Routh-starring film, then you are in luck! There is a pilot in development for a series adaptation of the property. In case you’re unfamiliar with the cult comic book, Dylan Dog is a very popular Italian horror comic, created by Tiziano Sclavi in 1986. “Dylan Dog is a private investigator specializing in nightmares. He lives with his eccentric assistant Groucho and solves cases dealing with the paranormal.”
Because the copyright to Dylan Dog still lies in Hollywood, some of the comics’ characters have to be slightly altered, but the atmosphere and feel is kept as close as possible to the source material. That means that Dylan, the newest adaptation of the comic book, is an “unofficial” project.
The pilot to the series is titled “Dream of the Living Dead” and will be directed, produced, scored and edited by Austrian-born artist Kevin Kopacka. He serves as co-writer alongside fellow director Alex Bakshaev. Besides the titular character Dylan, the pilot will feature alterations of other characters such as Groucho, Inspektor Bloch, Madame Trelkovski, Jenkins, Morgana, and Xarabas.
The synopsis for the pilot reads as follows:
“After a fight with her husband Corrado, Morgana’s world seems somehow different. Trapped between reality and nightmare, she has no choice but to seek out “Nightmare Investigator” Dylan Dawn. But can Dylan save her from her fate or is she forever caught in a maze of bad dreams?“
Dylan will star Ford Everett as Dylan, Denise Ankel as Morgana and Rainer Werner Fassbinder veteran Harry Baer as Inspektor Mahlow.
The pilot is currently in post-production, but the rough edit has already been finished. It will have a runtime of 40 minutes and will be released free for everyone online this coming April 2017. Check out the teaser for Dylan below.
