(October 9, 2015) – Last night the Drunken Devil invited us to his Downtown LA loft to witness the inaugural opening to the Sinners Soiree. This is the first year for the Drunken Devil team, which includes founder Matt Dorado, Mak Manson, Mary Imagination, Ryan Dringstaff, and Maclaine Fiori. The initial idea was formed by Matt Dorado after experiencing the innovative interactive theater of Delusion who is headed by Jon Braver. Matt and his team decided to go a different route with their haunt. Newer haunts are stepping up their game making the scares more intense, almost crossing the line to physical torture. And to our understanding some extreme haunts even cross that line. The Drunken Devil crew decided to go the other direction and make a haunt that was straight out fun. The haunt itself is rather short. The MVP’s go to all the scare-actors present inside, who are incredibly real characters. An interesting side note that we noticed was not one person inside the entire maze growled, screamed, or used a shake can which is particularly refreshing. The atmosphere created within the maze is simple and creepy but effective. Although short, Matt and his team did a fantastic job for their first year.
Before and after the maze we were treated to the Drunken Devil’s personal stash of beer, wine, and an exquisite coffee infused whiskey called Fliquor Bean. Seriously, that stuff is amazing. The haunt only costs $18, and drinks are an appropriate thematic $6.66. You can get tickets to the event right HERE, or follow them on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
