It’s a big weekend for SoCal horror, as the Halloween season begins to take effect, more and more horror themed events are surfacing. From haunts to screenings, the Southern California area is littered with horror happenings. This weekend will see the screening of Brian Gearson and Joseph Davis’ short film Tender at the Action On Film Festival in Monrovia, CA.
Tender tells the story of a woman who goes out on a date with a man who isn’t quite who he says he is. The film originally premiered last October at the joint Seraph Films We Are Indie Horror Horror Short Film Night at the El Cid restaurant and bar. Since then Tender has been making the rounds, showcasing what the filmmaking duo has to offer.
Tender stars Ryan Demarest, Joyce Hall, and Evan Cassidy, written by Steven Rodgers. This is the first short film for the mustached duo behind ProCo Production Company, a team who prides themselves on making films without Hollywood interference. According to an interview on our own podcast, Tea Time of Terror, David and Gearson discussed their filmmaking methods, which includes not hiring any professional film crew. While their sets are generally all amateur or green, their film shows off their raw talents, with intense camera movements and a stellar story.
Gearson and Davis are currently awaiting the premiere of their la
test short film, Puppet, set to premiere this October. This will mark the third horror short film effort by ProCo, also marking their third film in just one year.
The ProCo team, which has been supporters of WAIH for quite a while, will be at the Action on Film Screening in person on September 3rd at 8 PM. The festival is taking place at Krikorian Monrovia Cinema 12, 410 S Myrtle Ave, Monrovia, CA 91016
