We Are Indie Horror spoke with Kristina Klebe back in August, she mentioned that women are just as gross, if not more gross, than any man especially within horror. By that time one woman already made her mark with a gruesome and daringly ambitious film called Truth Or Dare.
Scream Queen, Jessica Cameron celebrated the wrapping of her second feature with releasing some EXTREMELY NSFW images for her upcoming release titled Mania back in late 2014 . The tagline should be enough to grab your attention: “A f**ked up lesbian love story.” Any horror fan in their right mind would automatically know this smells of gory fun. Along with the crazy tag line, reviews are coming in from across the country and they are positive. We Are Indie Horror is excited to check it out when possible. In the meantime we will share what we know.
The plot line is as follows:
Two lesbian lovers are forced to flee their hometown after a brutal murder changes their lives forever.
Mania was directed by Jessica Cameron and written by Jonathan Scott Higgins. The gruesome tale stars Tristan Risk and Ellie Church.
Mania is part of a triple-feature film experiment. On November 1st, 2014 a bunch of filmmakers packed into an RV and left tinsel town to embark on a cross-country journey to shoot three feature films. In a little over three weeks, three female indie film makers created three feature films. While traveling to California, New Mexico, Texas, Kansas, Tennessee, Ohio, Alabama, and Arizona the team successfully utilized houses, abandoned towns, shady motels, and the landscapes for filming locations. “In fact, while filming a death scene in the Arizona desert, no less than four police cars showed up claiming that they received a call the team was shooting pornography. When director/executive producer Cameron explained it was a horror film, the Tucson Sheriffs became disappointed and quickly left.”
With an interesting and unique take on creating the films, the team lets the indie spirit shine bright. They used only their surroundings and the people crammed into this RV to make three feature length films. Not only does this sound like a ton of fun but it is a true exercise is creative limitations and patience of others. It will sure be intriguing to see the fruits of this labor.
The three films are Mania directed by Cameron, Desolation directed by Ryan M. Andrews and a documentary chronicling the entire creative process entitled Kill The PA. For more information on all the films be sure to check out all the social media links below.
Jessica Cameron comes to Mania with one previous credit, the acclaimed Truth Or Dare. Released in 2013, the horror community raved with this violent rendition of the popular party game. For her debut feature, the film is quite the feat. The film itself won 31 separate awards from festivals across the globe.
Coming in 2016, We Are Indie Horror is sure to hear an immense amount about these three productions. Mania has already won Best Horror Film at the Arizona Underground Film Festival. Check out the teaser below followed by many pictures from Jessica Cameron’s second feature. You have been warned – The following photos are extremely NSFW.
