The setup is classic; a group of college kids on a road trip encounter horrific experiences but what makes Christina Raia‘s newest feature, Summit, different is she vows to take the film in a nuanced and character-driven direction. Hopefully that means no cheap scares and characters we care about.
There is not a lot of information on the film out yet, but a few little notes that are interesting to comment on. This film is a true indie film. The budget is listed at approximately $20,000 and the shoot is rumored to have last only 16 days. Raia also listed a Kickstarter for it where she raised over $12,000!
Writer/Director Christina Raia brings Lauren A. Kennedy, Ryan Kramer, Ricardo Manigat, Rob Ceriello, and Emma Barrett to star as friends who end up on a journey of their nightmares.
The official synopsis is as follows:
Five college friends hit the road for a ski trip. When they end up at the wrong location and can’t backtrack because of the intense cold and secluded surroundings, they decide to take shelter in an abandoned house overnight. When they wake in the morning, things are not quite what they seemed and it’s too late to turn back.
The film is currently making its rounds at festivals with it’s next screening being at Scare-A-Con in Verona, New York during the weekend of September 11-13. Following her crazy festival schedule, Raia is looking to bring Summit VOD in January by self-distributing it.
